psychoanalytic psychotherapy in archway, finsbury park and london bridge
I have been working with individuals, couples and groups for the last twenty years. I offer counselling, psychotherapy and supervision in Archway, Finsbury Park and London Bridge.
I would describe my orientation as psychoanalytic from within a contemplative perspective. By this I mean that I subscribe to the idea of an unconscious and believe that events and attitudes from early life can impact on our lives today. I understand that an awareness of these currents helps to increase the choices available to us. Yet I also know, as a long-time meditator, that paying attention in a non-judgemental fashion enables previously unbearable experiences to be borne and new possibilities discovered. I provide a safe space in which these experiences can be explored.
I originally trained with the Association of Independent Psychotherapists (AIP) where the training aimed to hold a creative tension between psychoanalysis (Freud) and analytical psychology (Jung). I have run meditation retreats using a self-enquiry technique based on Zen Buddhism, and I spent 20 years working in NHS hospitals. I am a member of the Association for Group and Individual Psychotherapy (AGIP) where I previously chaired the training committee. I am currently the clinical lead for the reduced fee service at Number 42, a group psychotherapy practice in central London. I am the course leader for The Guild’s psychoanalytic supervision training of which I am a graduate.
I work with many issues including:
- abuse
- ADHD
- addiction
- autistic spectrum
- anxiety
